7 너희가 참음은 징계를 받기 위함이라 하나님이 아들과 같이 너희를 대우 하시나니 어찌 아비가 징계하지 않는 아들이 있으리요 (Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father?)

8 징계는 다 받는 것이거늘 너희에게 없으면 사생자요 참 아들이 아니니라 (If you are not disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate children and not true sons.)

<서 론>

                저는 성경에서 하나님의 자녀인 우리 크리스챤에게 말씀하시는 메세지 중에서 매우 소중하면서도 한편에서는 매우 힘든 메세지를 여러분과 함께 나누길 원합니다. 그것은 ‘징계’ 입니다. 징계라는 말은 그리 반가운 단어는 아닐수 있으나, 한명의 어린 어린아이가 자라나서 훌륭한 인격으로 자라나기 위해서 현명하고 지혜로운 부모라면 반드시 그 아이를 위해 행하게 되는 것이 ‘징계’ 라고 오늘 본문말씀은 우리에게 도전하고 있습니다. 바로, ‘모든 영의 아버지되신 사랑 많으신 하나님 우리 아버지의 징계’ 입니다!! 이제 더 이상 하나님의 징계를 ‘하나님은 나를 사랑하시지 않아! 나를 미워하셔! 나에게 대해 무관심 하셔!’ 라고 이해하며 실망하고 절망해 하는 것이 아니라, 오늘 말씀을 통하여 하나님의 징계와 훈련은 ‘사랑하시는 그의 아들과 딸에게 허락된 은혜요, 사랑의 손길’ 임을 깨닫고 이 징계를 통해 더욱 철든 그의 자녀로 눈뜨고 훈련되어지는 성도 여러분 되시기를 기대 합니다.

<본 론>

                오늘 본문에서 히브리서기자는 ‘징계’ (hardship) 와  ‘훈련’ (discipline) 이란 단어를 동일한 의미로 번갈아가며 사용하고 있음을 봅니다. 이것은 우리 크리스챤들에게 있어서 ‘힘든 시간’ 은 단순히 불행하거나 재수가 없는 시간이 아니라, 우리를 지으실 뿐 아니라 그리스도 안에서 자신의 아들과 딸로 삼으신 하나님 아버지의 분명한 뜻 가운데 행하시는 ‘훈련의 시간이요, 징계의 시간이라’ 는 사실을 지적하고 있음을 이해하게 됩니다. 물론, 나의 부주의와 게으름, 내 잘못으로 인한 고통이나 고난의 시간을 단순히 하나님의 훈련이라고 말할수는 없습니다. 그러나, 한가지 우리가 인정할수 있는 사실은 내 삶에서 일어나는 모든 순간은 우연은 없으며, 하나님의 보호하심과 은혜 아래 놓여 있다는 사실이요, 심지어 ‘나의 모든 실수와 잘못 까지도 모두 사용 하셔서 반드시 선을 이루시는 이는 하나님 우리 아버지’ (롬. 8:28) 라는 사실을 인정할때 그 어떤 것도 우리 아버지의 손 안에서는 나를 다루시고, 훈련시키시고, 아버지의 성숙된 자녀로 성장시키는 ‘훌륭한 도구’ (the awesome tools) 가 됨을 깨닫습니다.

그렇다면 이제 저는 구체적으로 “하나님의 징계를 통해 깨닫아야 할것은 무엇인지?”  (What do we have to recognize through the discipline of God?) 에 대해 살펴 보겠습니다;

첫째, ‘징계가 없으면 우리는 사생아라는 사실’ 입니다; “징계는 다 받는 것이거늘 너희에게 없으면 사생자요 참 아들이 아니니라” (v. 8)

히브리서기자가 징계에 대해 무엇보다 강조하는 핵심은 ‘징계는 하나님의 아들과 딸이라는 사실을 나타내는 가장 구체적인 증거’ 라는 것 입니다. 이 징계로 인하여 우리는 사생아가 아니다는 사실 입니다. 무엇이 ‘사생아’ (illegitimate children) 입니까? 사생아는 아버지가 죽은 아이가 아니라, ‘법적으로 부부가 아닌 남녀 사이에서 태어난 아이’ 입니다. 한마디로 자기를 낳은 부모가 정상적인 부부의 관계를 통해 그를 낳은 것이 아니기 때문에 그 아이에 대해 부끄럽게 생각할뿐 아니라, 그 아이가 정상적인 자녀로서 누릴수 있는 모든 혜택과 특권을 주지않고 고아처럼 내버려 두었다는 뜻 입니다. 그 아이가 무엇을 하든 상관없이 내버려 둔다는 뜻 입니다. 이런 사생아는 성경에서 표현하는 가장 두렵고 비참한 상태로 언제나 표현되고 있습니다. 사도바울은 우리 인간이 “저희가 마음에 하나님 두기를 싫어하매 하나님께서 저희를 그 상실한 마음대로 내어버려 (두셨다)” (롬. 1:28) 고 선언하고 있습니다. 그러나, 우리 하나님의 자녀를 그분은 결코 사생아처럼 내버려 두시지 않는다는 것 입니다. 그것을 어떻게 압니까? 그 증거가 징계라는 것 입니다. 구약성경의 긴 이스라엘민족의 역사는 한마디로 하자면, <하나님은 그의 사랑하시는 자녀를 징계하신다> 는 교리에 대한 긴 해석이라고 할수 있습니다. 시편기자는 주님이 허락하시는 징계 곧 ‘고난’ 의 가치와 유익을 이렇게 잘 고백하고 있습니다; “고난 당한 것이 내게 유익이라 이로 인하여 내가 주의 율례를 배우게 되었나이다” (시. 119:71) 라고 말 입니다. 징계, 곧 하나님의 훈련에 있어서 우리가 가장 먼저 이해해야 하는 사실은 ‘이 징계는 내가 하나님으로 부터 버려진 존재가 아니라, 그 정반대로 그분의 사랑과 돌보심을 누리는 분명한 증거’ 라는 사실 입니다. 여러분은 지금 당하는 징계를 어떻게 이해하십니까?

둘째, ‘무엇이 징계인가하는 사실’ 입니다; “아무것도 염려하지 말고 오직 모든 일에 기도와 간구로, 너희 구할것을 감사함으로 하나님께 아뢰라” (빌. 4:6)

징계에는 과연 어떤 것들이 있을까요?  그것은 앞에서도 잠시 살펴보았드시 하나님은 우리의 모든 상황과 환경을 통해 그것을 징계의 도구로 사용하십니다. 그것은 ‘재정적인 어려움’ 이나 ‘직장의 문제’ ‘인간관계’ ‘가족의 문제’ 그리고 ‘건강의 문제’ 등 다양하게 임함을 볼수 있습니다. 우리가 잘 아는데로 사도바울이 자신의 ‘육체의 가시’ 에 대해 3번씩 주께 간절히 구했던 것이 무엇인가를 생각해 본다면 우리는 그 가시가 무엇을 의미하는지를 잘 이해할수 있는 것 입니다. 바울의 간구에 대한 주님의 대답은 “ ~ 내 은혜가 네게 족하도다” (고후. 12:9a) 는 것 이었습니다. 왜요? 그것은 주께서 사도바울을 사랑하지 않거나 무관심해서가 아니라, 그 가시를 통하여 그가 더욱 겸손함 가운데 주의 사랑안에 거하게 하시고자 하는 매우 적극적인 은혜의 표현이었습니다. ‘내 능력이 약한데서 온전하여지며, 나의 여러 약한 것들에 대해서 자랑하는 이유는 그리스도의 능력으로 나를 완전히 덮어시게 하시는 (놀라운 하나님의 은혜)’ (고후. 12:9b) 가 그 속에 있음을 바울이 깨닫았기 때문 입니다. 이것이 하나님의 사도바울을 향한 신실하신 사랑의 징계요 훈련이었습니다. 그렇다면, 여러분에게는 어떤 하나님의 징계가 지금 행해지고 있습니까? 하나님의 그 은혜와 사랑의 손길을 느끼십니까?

제가 여러분에게 드리는 중요한 질문 한가지는 “어떻게 하나님의 징계를 내가 깨닫을수 있을까?” 하는 것 입니다. 이 질문에 대한 성경의 대답은 이런 하나님의 징계를, 그분의 훈련을 내마음데로 이해하고 결론 내려서는 않된다는 것 입니다. 사도바울은 어떻게 우리가 하나님의 뜻과 인도하심을 받을수 있는지를 이렇게 잘 가르쳐주고 있습니다; “아무것도 염려하지 말고 오직 모든 일에 기도와 간구로, 너희 구할것을 감사함으로 하나님께 아뢰라” (빌. 4:6) 고 말입니다. 그렇습니다. 하나님의 자녀인 여러분과 제가 아버지의 선하신 뜻을 이해하고 그 뜻에 순종할수 있는 길은 아무것도 염려하지 않고, 모든 일에 기도와 간구로 아뢰는 것 입니다. 내가 겪는 고통과 아픔의 의미는 무엇인지, 이 징계를 통해 아버지께서 주실 크신 은혜와 선물은 무엇인지를 감사함으로 아뢰야 하는 것 입니다. 징계는 하나님 아버지의 그의 받으시는 자녀를 향한 가장 적극적인 사랑의 손길임을 우리는 놓치지 말아야 합니다. 그렇다면, 이제 마지막으로 생각해 볼점은

셋째, ‘어떻게 징계를 받을 것인가 하는 사실’ 입니다;

저는 로이드존스 목사의 책, ‘영적 침체’ 에서 그점을 잘 설명하고 있음을 발견 했습니다. 로이드존스 목사는 먼저 3가지 부정적인 사실, 즉 징계를 받을때 ‘해서는 않되는’ 점 3가지를 언급하고 나서, 3가지 긍정적인 사실, 징계 받을때 ‘해야만’ 하는 점 3가지를 밝히고 있습니다;

  1. 먼저, 무엇이 ‘해서는 않되는 3가지 점’ 입니까? 그것은
  • ‘징계를 무시해서는 않된다는 것’ 입니다; “주의 징계를 경히 여기지 말며” (히. 12:5)

징계 받을때 깨닫음이 없고 회개함도 없고, 냉담하고 철갑을 두른듯 주의 징계를 무시하는 태도는 매우 위험한 태도 입니다. 성경에서는 이런자를 향해 ‘목이 곧은 백성이다’ (출. 32:9) 라고 표현하고 있습니다.

  • ‘징계 받을때 낙심해서는 않된다는 것’ 입니다; “ ~ 그에게 꾸지람을 받을 때에 낙심하지 말라” (히. 12:5)

히브리서 기자는 하나님의 자녀인 우리는 징계 받을때, 실망하고 손과 발에 힘이 다 빠져서 자포자기하는 절망에 빠져서는 않된다고 충고하고 있습니다. 왜요? 왜냐하면, 하나님의 사랑하는 모든 자녀에게는 예외없이 징계가 행해진다는 사실을 깨닫는 다면 말 입니다!!

  • ‘징계 받을때 쓴 뿌리가 나서는 않된다는 것’ 입니다; “ ~ 쓴 뿌리가 나서 괴롭게 하고 많은 사람이 이로 말미암아 더러움을 입을까 두려워하고” (히. 12:15b) ‘쓴 뿌리’ (bitter root) 는 무엇일까요? 쓴뿌리는 ‘상처’ 요 ‘원한’ 입니다. 요셉의 인생이 얼마나 그의 형들에 대한 쓴뿌리로 인해 망가지고 좌절될수 있을지 우리는 쉽게 짐작할수 있읍니다. 그러나 요셉이 이런 쓴뿌리로 부터 벗어날수 있었던 것은 이 모든 것을 주관하시고 이끄신 분은 형들이 아니요, 하나님의 뜻이요 그분의 경륜 (창. 45:5-8) 임을 그가 깨닫을수 있었기 때문 입니다. 하나님의 징계하심에 감사와 겸손함으로 나아가지 않고, 원망과 쓴 뿌리로 나아갈때 우리는 고통과 절망 가운데 점점 더 육신의 열매만을 거두는 불행한 삶을 살아가게 됨을 명심해야 합니다.

 

  1. 그렇다면, 무엇이 행해야 하는 3가지 점’ 입니까? 그것은
  • ‘하나님의 자녀답게 반응하라’ 는 것 입니다; “또 아들들에게 권하는 것 같이” (히. 12:5) ‘아들들’ 이 뜻하는 바는 무엇일까요? 아이처럼 행동하지 말고, 아들들처럼 행동하라는 것 입니다.
  • ‘성경말씀의 논리적 주장에 따르라’ 는 것 입니다; “ ~ 아들들에게 권하는 것 같이 너희에게 권면하신 말씀을 잊었도다” (히. 12:5) 너희를 설득하는 권면 입니다. 우리의 머리와 논리적 구조와 지성을 동원해서 성경을 읽으라는 것 입니다. 그렇다면, 성경말씀의 논리적인 결론은 무엇 일까요? 그것은 ‘철든 자녀로 행동하라’ 는 것 입니다.
  • ‘하나님이 친히 징계하심을 이해하라’ 는 것 입니다; “또 우리 육신의 아버지가 우리를 징계하여도 공경 하였거든 ~ 더욱 복종하며 살려 하지 않겠느냐?” (히. 12:9) 이 징계는 하나님 아버지께서 직접 행하신다는 것 입니다. 왜요? 우리의 유익을 위함입니다. 무슨 유익 입니까? 바로 우리 자녀를 ‘자신의 거룩함에 참여시키기 위함’ (V. 10) 입니다. 바로 ‘의로움과 평화의 열매’ 를 훈련받은자를 통하여 맺히게 하려 하심 입니다.

<결 론>

                사랑하는 성도 여러분, 하나님의 징계의 목적은 무엇 입니까? 바로 우리를 하나님 아버지의 거룩함에 동참시키시고자 함 입니다. 이것이 바로 ‘성화’ 입니다. 금방 태어난 어린 아이에게는 딱딱한 음식을 줄수 없고 엄마의 젖이나 죽만 먹일수 밖에 없지만, 그 아이가 자라남에 따라 점점 더 단단한 음식을 먹입니다. 그래야만 그 아이가 점점 더 건강하게 성인으로 성장할수 있기 때문 입니다. 이런 영적으로 단단한 음식이 바로 ‘징계요, 고난’ 이요, 영적 훈련이라고 저는 믿습니다. 더 이상 영적 어린아이로 머물러 있는 것이 아니라, 사랑과 지혜로우신 우리 아버지의 징계의 손안에서 날마다 훈련받고 불로 연단하여도 없어지지 않을 귀한 믿음의 자녀로 자라나시는 성도 여러분 모두 되시기를 축원 합니다. 바로 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 장성한 분량까지…. 이런 복된 하나님의 아들 딸된 성도 여러분의 삶 사시길 예수님의 이름으로 간절히 기도 합니다. 아멘.
